about

Another one of my favorites. I just love the chord progression on this song and how the melody floats through it in a minor key. This song is about the death of a relationship, hence the name. About watching it crumble and turn sour before your eyes, not being able to do anything about it.

I wanted to add as little strings as possible to the songs on this album, wanting to keep the instrumentation in the realm of what I'm able to play and arrangements that are relatively capable of being translated to a live band setting without sounding hollow, or not as full without something like strings, though I just had to make an exception on this one. I knew from the start this had to be the most grandiose and extravagant on the record. To do this I went all out to make it as powerful as I could with the limited resources I had. I'm extremely proud of how this one came out and think it's a fitting end to the album.

P.S. There is a secret at the end of this track, something I forgot to take off but I didn't want to remove it when I found it cause I enjoy when albums have ghost tracks.

lyrics

Grave
Martin Samuel Wells III

Take whatever you can find,
Soon you will be running out of time,
Please don’t tell me what you think of this
Cause I don’t want to know.

The rain is coming, and you know it too,
I can see it when I look at you,
It won’t be long now friend,
You better brace for impact while you can.

Oh, I’m not trying to hurt you,
I don’t want to see you cry no more.
I’m starting to think that it’s a lost cause now,
I have no chance if you insist on loving him.

Strangers watching by the day,
They all see just what I’m trying to say,
That’s not how you treat a lady,
That’s not how to be a man.

I know why you just don’t leave;
He has always been your everything.
Well he wants to leave you now,
but his phobia of loneliness objects.

No, I don’t want to hurt you,
So, I’ll leave you two alone.
I can tell you think you love him so,
And now I know why your heart won’t come to me.

So, life was not the way you thought it’d be.
If only you’d at least chose me.
