about

My initial idea for this song came to me on the last day of my 14-day trek in the mountains of New Mexico at Philmont Scout Reservation. While hiking back to the home base, I had this idea for a song's chorus in my head and made up some words to go with it. When I got home I only changed one line from the initial chorus idea and developed the rest of a song using the music from an older idea I had that I no longer liked the lyrics or melody to.

It came together as a kinda "don't trust the media, think for yourself, stick it to the man" song, though that wasn't the original plan. I like the song and people I've shown it to seem to like it as well so I guess I did okay on it.

I'm really fond of the guitar riff that plays on the opener and various times between choruses and verses throughout the song. I also really like the bassline on this song. I think it's rad.

The album's title comes from a line in the chorus of this track.

lyrics

Trying to Save The Day
Written By: Martin Samuel Wells III

You try to tell me that I’m wrong and must improve,
Then you expect me just to know what I’m supposed to do.
I’m getting tired of the noise,
Just let me hear it from a human’s voice.
The Indefatigable controller of what is true.

Try and hear me out, maybe just reading headlines is not what it’s about.
The only thing you’re getting is misinformed.
We’re in a civil war, and I bet you can’t tell me what you’re even fighting for,
The shepherds like their sheep under control. Oh,

But you won’t rock and roll me away
Cause I am right here to stand on my
Own two feet while you’re floating away
I’m holding my hand out, I’m trying to save the day.

While times are changing people’s brains are moving fast.
To read the truth you’re gonna have to use a looking glass.
We may be running out of time,
So can you people just make up your minds?
It may not be worth the pain in vein of simply being right.

Be careful what you say, a jail fine may not be the only price you pay.
Big Brother’s watching so never look away.

I don’t know what to say
except “think for yourself, anticipate,
they’re lying to your face.”
I think there’s still some time
To start using your mind before
They kill the heart,
and take your right to fight away.

But you won’t rock and roll me away
Cause I am right here to stand on my
Own two feet while you’re floating away
I’m holding my hand out, I’m trying to save the day.
Trying to save the day
Trying to save the day
I’m holding my hand out
